Sometimes a moment is just a moment, 2015

Caught between the past and future; programmed by culture and genetics we orientate and organise our lives using underlying stories which are threaded together moment by moment. Catagorising and compartmentalising as we go. Most experiences forgotten before they reach consciousness. Others shoved to the side or remembered with heightened clarity.

Through her work Dare delves into many different but interrelating topics including subjectivity, psychology, identity, time and perspective. Recently she has been occupied with the neurological and biological mechanisms centralised around the implications of being. This has lead the artist in the last couple of years to re-examine the construction of personal narrative.

Exhibited in Bankwest Art Prize 2015 at Bankwest Gallery 20 October 2015 – 12 February 2016

Last week of Gotham Gets Pickled at Holmes à Cour Last week of Gotham Gets Pickled at Holmes à Court Gallery @ no.10. Finishes this Saturday the 4th December at 5pm. Open Tues - Sat 11am - 5pm. 10 Douglas Street, West Perth

Artist Statement:

Green. Paddocks of wheat in early Spring. The Avon River in Winter. My favourite turtleneck skivvy when I was five. The sweet moist smell of forest undergrowth.

For the last 20 years I have been interested in personal narrative. Particularly how it is constructed within individual subjectivity. The process of why and how people choose certain events and experiences from their culture, families and day-to-day living to build stories by which they navigate, view and understand their lives.

As a child green was my favourite colour. Peaceful, soothing, full of hope and renewal. Now as an adult the colour green has other meanings. Political, environmental and personal. This body of work investigates a few of these divergent aspects of my relationship with the colour green. Particularly the changes in comprehension, understanding and knowledge which come with the passage of time.

Gotham Gets Pickled' celebrates 35 years of Gotham Studios. As Western Australia’s longest running artist-run initiative, “Gotham has evolved into an icon of independent Western Australian artistic endeavour, placing working artists in the heart of Perth’s CBD for over three decades. Hundreds of visual artists have held studios in Gotham over the collective’s life span, including many of the state’s most celebrated arts practitioners.”
This exhibition brings the works of the twelve current Gotham artists to the Holmes à Court Gallery @ no.10 in the burgeoning arts hub of the Pickle District. Themed green, the exhibition showcases an eclectic diversity of works spanning figurative to abstract painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and installation.
